Hair Glossary

I would like to include a few terms that will occasionally be used in my hair blogs and are defined as I understand them:

ACV – Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse

APL – used to describe hair that is arm pit length

BC/Big Chop – cutting off the relaxed ends of ones hair

Braid and Curl/BNC – hair style that involves braiding the hair while wet (or dry) and wrapping the ends on rods, letting it air dry or sitting under dryer then taking braids out & style

Braid Out – hair style that involves braiding the hair while wet (or dry), letting it air dry or sitting under dryer, then taking braids out & style

BSL – used to describe hair that is bra-strap length

Co-Wash – washing hair with conditioner instead of shampoo

EVOO – Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Product Junkie/PJ – someone who has a tendency to buy any and all hair care products in sight.

Rodset – hairstyle that involves rods to curl the hair

Straw Set – hairstyle that involves wrapping hair around straws to obtain a coil look

Transitioning – the process of going from relaxed hair to natural hair

TWA – Teeny Weeny Afro

Twistout – hair style that involves twisting the hair while wet (or dry), letting it air dry or sitting under the dryer, then taking twists out and style

Wash and Go – simply wash or co-wash hair, add a styler gel or cream and go
